I know there are a bunch of threads already posted about this but i want to make sure i don't screw it up. i removed one bolt from the front top of the cavitation plat and two from the bottom sides. It only dropped a couple inches. I see no other nuts or bolts anywhere! I've beat it harder than i like and will continue "persuading" it off if I'm sure it is not attached somehow.

Should be another one under the Trim tab.

Would kind of help to know the serial number of your engine as there are many different 1990 hp versions of Mercury two and four stroke engines.

When you say trim tab- are you referring to under the cavitation plate? There are 2 phillips scews there, one holding the anode and the other holding the screen for the water (inlet?). I don't see anything else in there. Thanks for the quick replies guys!

As you probably don't have the manual, go here:

http://search.ebscohost.com/Communi...713679367E325E33613370335&return=y&IsMobile=N

ID marshall
Password public

Then hit "Login" and select "Small Engine Repair", then "Marine Boats/Motors" and scroll down to and select Mercury.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "OUTBOARD 3-175 HP, 1990-1993", then select "Lower Unit Gear Housing", then select "Gear Housing" and allow the page to load as it will take a minute or so (26mb)

You can save this to your computer if you want. Go to page 390 and note diagram (2) and then page 391, "Removal (8, 9.9 and 15hp)".

And there you go. If you find this too difficult to follow, send me a PM with an email address and I will send it to you.
