Hello,
My 1990 2.3L OMC kill switch went bad. I have replaced it with a SeaDog universal kill switch. It has 4 prongs on the switch. 2 labeled C for coil and 2 labeled M for magneto. The wires to my old switch are purple. If I wire to the 2 "C"'s I do not have dash lights. I thought this was the way it was to be wired.
If I wire to the 2 M's My dash lights work as usual. I have not ran the engine and tested to see if this would work. Any help will be appreciated. Ed

Re: 1990 OMC 2.3L kill switch problems

When you wired it to the 2 c's did the motor run? It sounds like your dash lights are wired to come on when ever the ignition is on.
Using the coil connections the switch should be in the closed (contact between the 2 c posts) when the switch is toggled to run. Pulling the lanyard breaks contact. You lose power to the coil, engine dies.
The Mag posts are opposite that. No contact when toggled to run. Pulling lanyard makes contact. grounding Mag., engine dies.
