Hello - we have a 1990 Sea Nympth where our fuel pump seems to be flaking off the paint inside and is getting clogged in the cone filter. We replaced it with what was supposed to the only one they could find, and we have already had the problem again this summer after one time out. The boat ran fine until we were back in the harbor. Took the filter off and it had black particles inside that we believe are coming from the filter. Pulled it apart and there are large flakes of paint inside the fuel pump which are peeling off. It is a Carter pump - 4 cylinder, 3 liter 0-035 with serial number 608894 C22B (OMC-2000) however I could not find it in the cross reference chart. The S/N on the boat is 302-BMRPWR and serial number is T1200687.
We are trying to either find a replacement without the painted inside and are open to any suggestions on trying to get all of the paint off the hard to reach areas. Other option could be to switch to an electronic fuel pump. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.
