Model #225581993

9.9hp Sears and roebuck gamefisher. (Force)

Problem: No RPM's when gear selector is in the "Forward" position. The throttle can only be moved Slightly past the idle or start position, before the motor "Chokes" out and dies. Interesting thing is that it works fine in neutral and reverse and in forward when the prop is out of the water and When the clutch engages because of too much force on the prop. But when in the water, Just idle speed or Die.

Recent changes:

I removed the Thermostat because it was Seized up Could this be the reason? Not enough power to pump the Additional amount of water if any?

Carb was rebuilt and is in good working order.

New gas tank. One of those Atwood tanks where there is no air vent. and the tank is constantly blowed up like a birthday Balloon.

Thanks for any-ideas, or possible solutions.

Re: 1990 Sear's Game Fisher

Bump for some assistance.

Pulled the motor out last week, Same problem. Replaced spark plugs because gap was incorrect on one. Could all this be a timing issue? If so How does one set timing on one of these engines.

Thanks in advance.

I believe you may have one or more "synchronize" problems. Think: linkage

As you advance the twist-grip, you are causing the stator plate to rotate - changing the timing. The staror plate, in turn, opens & closes the throttle butterfly.

Translation: In order for the engine to perform correctly, the ignition timing and the throttle butterfly have to be properly "synchronized".

I recently sold a '96 Gamefisher 9.9 that used a cable to link the twist-grip to the stator plate. Look into it.

Sorry but I cannot help you with the motor issue. However, I am curious to know what you did, if anything, about the fuel tank vent. Another forum member with a "new tank" reported his motor would start and run fine but die after a few minutes. He opened the gas tank cap which released the vacuum that had been created and the motor would start and run. He switched to a vented fuel tank cap and the problem went away. Good luck!
