Hi everyone I'm new to this forum and boating in general. I couldnt find a new members area to post in so hope this is ok.

I am looking for a multi-purpose boat for family time as well as some great lakes/ Saginaw bay fishing.

I have found quite a few islanders for a fair price but stumbled across a 1990 heritage 21ft like the title says.

I have been lurking on this forum and googling but have come up short on info about this particular model. Anyone familiar with it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Andy

that's a nice boat, don't know anything about that model but it looks wide open and clean as a pin. Looks like a nice cruiser. Welcome

Is that aluminum? Another Michigan Starcraft.

Thanks for the link the boat is in there but the text is a bit fuzzy. Looks like they were marketed as "economical" way to get on the water.

I'm no expert but it looks kinda like an earlier Islander to me. Kind of hard to tell in the pics with the cover on it. Does look pretty clean though.

It looks like it's just a tuned down version (not as many bells and whistles) of the Islander. If you go back and forth from page 1 and page 2 you can see the differences. It even has a thinner hull I believe? Still in all looks like a nice boat.

Ya pretty close to neighbors. I havent bought it yet gotta head down to detriot to get the full run down. It appears to be a fair deal and will get me and the family out on the water so looks promising.

Re: 1990 Starcraft heritage 21 ft

Just caught the craigslist ad...

At that price just be sure the transom and deck don't have any soft spots. I can't tell in the photos but I'm assuming that it's a Mercruiser 4 cyl (which is good). Be sure to at least get the engine running on muffs, sea trial would be better though.

If the engine checks, and you don't find any soft spots in the deck/transom, I think that anything in the sub $4K range would be great for a water ready boat like that!:D

Have fun!:)

What is the best way to check the transom? I know to walk all over the deck looking for soft spots but not real sure how to check the transom and stringers ect...

Well, good news is, the stringers are alum in this boat so you are all good there!

For the transom, you'll want to get right down in there, pretty much on your belly, and check where the transom shield is (where the outdrive comes through the transom) and all the lower/upper corners. Those are the areas where the rot starts.

Most would recommend digging in there real good with a screwdriver but I wouldn't be too keen on you digging away on my transom till you actually owned the boat, ya know.

That boat looks to be in great shape so I'd expect the transom to be in great shape too. If you find rot around the transom shield than that my be an indicator that the transom seal may have issues.

You need a recommendation for a marine mechanic downriver? I can ask on my lake st clair boat forum.

My dad is going to take a look at it this AM so if it looks ok then I will probably need a recommendation for a marine mech downriver when I get a chance to go check it out myself. Pops works down south so luckily I can get him to do some of my scouting before I make the journey.
