I'm hoping someone can help me with a issue that has just started with my Suzuki DT 85 outboard. The problem that I'm experiencing is high rpm's when at idle (approx. 3000 rpms). Here's what happens. When I start the motor cold, it starts up fine and comes up to about 1500 rpm's during the initial warm up. After a minute the rpm's will lower to 800-1000 rpm's (which is the norm). Now, after about 2-4 minutes of idle run time, the idle rpm's will slowly climb topping out at around 3000 rpms. My attempts to fix have included removing and cleaning all three carbs (did not rebuild because rebuilt last year). I also tried to adjust the idle using the ignition timing switch but there were no changes to the problem. I'm hoping someone can offer some advice on other potential causes of this problem. Thanks.

I would check to see if the timing is rising or staying in spec with a timing light as this RPM increases.
