Can I install a 200xp powerhead complete with carbs, intake and exhaust on my 150 chasis? I would assume it would drop right on and it probably uses the same lower unit and then put the newly labeled 150 cover back on. Sounds simple and would cost about $2,500. Feedback?

Your 150XP is a crossflow and a 200XP is a looper. It is not a direct replacement. Even the hood and pans wont interchange.

Sorry!

Reading some of your other posts I get a feeling you are down on performance. Rather than running out and spending your 2500 lets take a look at what you have. Tell us about your rig and set up. Top rpm etc.

Didnt like the Ballistic, huh? Its a world apart from the Raker, isnt it?

Re: 1990 xp150 powerhead swap.

i had about that same question 2 yrs ago.
mine was could i put an 82 125hp power head in place of the 80's 150/175hp power head.
-
i had gotten j/e 175 <tx> dressed in 150 trim with my trophy. so i had bought a 125 <tl> from ebay & wanted to switch pheads.
-
for you the gear ratio should be the same.
mine was 1.86 & needed 2.00 for the 125.
but the biggest thing is the exhaust adapter, and related parts.
they are different & thats where you come into problems.
-
with out having the parts book for both of the motors the 150 & the 200, you dont know what you will need.
if you havent priced a bolt from j/e lately you are in for a suprise.
-
then you have to look at the hood & lower cowling, they probably will not interchange.
-
im going on the idea that the 150hp is a crossflow & the 200hp is a looper.
-
with all that considered you have to look at corrosion.
you mite not be able to remove every bolt with out breaking some.
one thing i have learned is - working on O/b's is nothing like working on car motors.
-
last is money - if that is no concern than you can do anything.
good luck.

Re: 1990 xp150 powerhead swap.

DHadley, Thanx. I have magnumitus, can you tell....I wanna go faster. I have a 18' bassboat 1990 fiberglass tracker TF1800 w/1990xp150 24p raker 3blade no jack plate, 5'' under pad (stock setup) and tacking around 5500rpms. I have a big trolling motor on the bow it weighs 75lbs. When I take it off the boat acheives great bow lift and with the trolling motor on it is still ok but not as good. I can travel about 55mph wot on gps, does that sound ok? I have raced other bassboats in the past with newer 150's and i was going faster.

Thats not bad. About 18% slip, which isnt great but not bad. The 24 Raker has real good lift so I would suggest playing with that prop for now. Lets try to get the rpms up a bit by raising the motor. (We both know youre gonna end up with a jackplate!)

You have a real good baseline. Add in the water pressure numbers for reference later. Raise the motor as high as you can with the existing bolt holes and see what happens.

Let us know!
