I just put a new lower unit on my motor and need to put gear oil in it.

I sold my motorcycle and have the following unused/unopened gear oil left over from the final drive maintenance:

Valvoline DuraBlend Synthetic Blend 80W-90 Gear Oil

Can I use this for the break-in period? If not, it's no big deal, but just thought I may be able to make use of what I've got!

I don't see why that wouldn't work, Duke. 90W is what the regular outboard gear oil is.

Maybe someone else thinks otherwise.

There is no "marine" gear oil. And that synthetic stuff will probably do that unit some good! I have used anything from the WM brand to Yamaha brand, and it all has basically the same composition. I agree with JB, good luck! :)

Thanks! I hate to waste, but I'll waste in a heartbeat if it would not be good for the boat! Marriage wouldn't take it!
