1990 Yamaha. What is this?

1990 50ESD JD. I found this laying on the bottom of my motor near the oil pump. The 2 brown wires run across to the other side and plug into each other, so obviously it isn't hooked up to anything, just laying there. It is kinda like a button switch, it pushes down and springs back up. I was wondering what it is.

maybe your safety neutral switch...
my 115 has a switch like that that is located below the carbs, and it's activated by the shift linkage.
