I have a 1991 115hp on a 1992 Charger 17XLT I just picked up. It has been sitting for 2 years in a garage, cherry shape.

I have done the following:
  • Replaced batteries and all wiring connectors in well
  • Replaced all oil lines from the oil tank
  • Replaced fuel line
  • Drained gas and filled up with premium added Stabil and Merc Gas treatment
  • Other non related mechanical changes; e.g. steering cable, tilt/trim motor
Odd thing. Engine fires right up, idles fine, runs great. This boat has been well cared for, just sat for two years. When I am running engine at 1500 to 2000 rpms, the "chirping" sound will sound intermittently. The same chirping sound when I turn the ignition key first on getting ready to start. The sound is not the full chirp as first turn, just squeaks off and on without any pattern or rhyme.

Chirping sound comes from under the console (steering wheel, dash), not from the engine.

Is this a warning? I am an old Evinrude salt, so I am new to Mercs. I have had the boat twice on the water the past week making sure all work is good--has done it both times.

Yes, as far as I can tell, the oil injection system is working great. Ran the boat for about an hour this evening. Ready to start fishing and stop "fixin."

Thanks in advance and love the new (old) girl.

Long time lurker, first time poster.
