I am getting an overheat alarm when accelerating and at speed when I go over someones wake. I have already made some changes to the fule system to rule out a fuel restriction causing it but it did not work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

why are you messing with fuel, when you have an overheat alarm. it's a 16 y/o enigne, when was the last time the water pump has been serviced?

I am messing with fuel because the waterpump was just rebuilt;all new. The mechanic that rebuilt waterpump suggested fuel restriction because it is the same alarm when there is a lean condition creating heat in the head causing the alarm to go off. It only goesof when I accelerate to plane; I can back off the accelerator and get it to stop. It also goes off when I go over someones wake.

Sounds like a loose wire grounding out to me! check the tan wire under the cowling to make sure its not grounding out any where.

I was just out in the garage looking at the height of the motor on the transom. It is mounted on a manual jack plate and the cavitation plate is about three inches above the bottom of the boat which puts the water pickup holes just in line with the bottom of the boat. Do you think that this could be causing a lack of water pressure and overheat alarm?

Re: 1991 150 Evunrude intruder

this motor has a vacuum switch witch activates when you have a fuel restriction.
the alarm is the same as the overheat alarm.
continues beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
check for fuel restrictin from the vent of your tank to the feul nipple on the fuel pump. anti siphon valve?
you are having the right size fuel hose? 3/8

easy way to check for overheat is when the alarm goes off check the temp.
you should be able to hold your finger on the head for 3 sec.
if not .... f... thats hot.

good luck
