I'm going to look at a 91 25hp Johnson w/ controls next week. I was hoping you nice folks might have some opinions on this motor. Sorry I don't have a lot of details at this point. Are all of these motors the same i.e.; are they all twins, with oil injection? (I'm guessing/hoping it's got oil inj.) When I go to look at this motor is there anything I should be specifically looking at. Should compression be around 120?

Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks

haz

Howdy Haz.

I don't think the 25s had VRO. Don't remember if the three cylinder 25s were available in '91, so it is probably a twin, and a great one.

Compression should be over 90psi and within 10% of each other. Hot, blue or white spark to all plugs.

Lower unit oil should be dark, not milky, and have no water in it.

Good luck. That was a great engine in '91 and if it has been cared for well it should still be one. :)

Is this the largest hp available for that particular block size? for example I believe the 9.9hp and 15hp OMC's are common blocks. I'm just thinking for the same weight I'd rather go with the larger hp.

haz

haz
Look and see if it has an oil tank to verify it has no oil injection(Doubt it on that small of a motor). It is a twin cylinder. A weight example is is 117 for a rope start and 120 with electric start for a 91' 25 HP. A rope start 15 HP of the same year weighs 77 pounds. 80 For an electric..

BTW-Excellent Motors and reliable
