I have the 4.3l OMC Cobra and I know there is a big difference in the starter motors as far as spark arresting coatings on the marine starters. When I look up replacement starters online a lot look like regular automotive starters without the coating to protect from spark. Wondering if I am careful and use the blower every time I start it would this be ok or should I get the coated one just to be safe?

Ayuh,.... The difference 'tween a Marine, 'n automotive is Internal, not the coatin's used,...
Marine starters still rust when wet, especially with Saltwater,....if Immersed, it's gonna Die,...
A Marine starter has it's electrical motor part, Sealed, usually with an extra ssteel plate, 'tween the motor, 'n bendix drive,...

and the marine version doesn't cost much more than the auto version, do NOT put an auto starter in an inboard boat, that is a VERY VERY bad idea that could cause an explosion. DO not depend on the blower to save you.....
