Simple question: If when my 1991, 70hp Johnson tries to go dead, when at idle, and I push the choke button in and it stays idling, does that mean that I have a problem with one or all of my carburetors? The motor runs great, does not cough, spit or sputter, just won't stay idling long enough for me to drive it onto the boat trailer. This is sooo agrivating!

What is going on? Do people think that I have some kind of contagious disease or something catching. I notice that my post has been veiwed by 76 people and not a single one of them has a reply and this is not the first time this has happened. Is the problem that hard to solve. I would just like some idea as to what is going on with my outboard. It's not rocket science, or is it?

Sounds like a carb problem to me. Choking to keep running is a big indicator. A thorough cleaning is in order.

Agree with half; many of those viewers don't want to venture a guess and they are in a "view only" mode and some are not signed up to post a reply. Good luck

Clean the carbs , idle jets or passages are more than likely gummed up somewhere. Make sure to remove the core plugs, carb kits are available here on Iboats i believe.

The reply would depend how long you have the engine and has it been serviced by a real Evinrude/dealer.

1st compression test.
2nd spark test.
3rd 1 and 2 good, clean carbs as recommend by the other posters.
4th Has the engine been updated with factory service bulletins?
5th Do not remove and replace the core plugs in carbs, unless you are sure you know how to it.
