went out in the bay yesterday on the way back the motor started to bog down felt like it was running on a couple of cylinders only could only 3000 rpm's at about 15 mph when i got home noticed a 3/4 rubber water hose broke and was squirting water over the 2 bottom coils the were all soaked and already had white "i guess salt water accumulation building up " checked compression 110,112,108,110 was wondering if that was shorting out the coils and what my next step should be

Water spraying on the coils could short them out, check to see if you have spark on all cyls. If ok try it again after cleaning the corrrosion off, and if it happens again try doing a spark check when the motor if acting up.

I agree with outboardjake. I would do a spake check and also I would do an ohm check on the coils to see if there is any difference bewteen the four. Be sure to remove the wires from the coils before ohming them out.

Hi caldog....

Don't forget the spark plugs. Make sure the area around them is clean from deposits. Looking at your compression test, ya' might want to do a decarb. The one cylinder (108psi) looked kinda' low.

ok ,thanks guys i am going to replace the hose, clean the coils, and sparkplugs. is it alright to pull one spark plug out at a time and keep it hooked up to the coil wire and get it close to a grounded and then crank it to see if there is spark. is this the recommended way?
thanks for all your help
