1991 Evinrude 60hp 3 cylinder powerhead swap, what other years?

Hello, I am in need of a new powerhead for my motor. I have started to tear it down for a rebuild but have seen a few 93-98 powerheads on Ebay with good compression. Would one of these fit? I always see 89-92 for parts and such, I just want to know one way or another if I could swap the newer years in since that would be a lot easier then rebuilding this entire powerhead.

I have not been able to find a clear cut answer so I am hoping someone can help me out.

Thanks

There are a couple of answers to this. Around 1987, these 3 cyl powerheads changed from 49 cubic inches to 56. Those different blocks/years won't interchange on the midsection adapter, according to the factory parts lists. Looks like the 87 and up will all bolt right on. The second part of the answer is: If you go to this website: http://www.obrparts.com/ and look up reman 3 cyl powerheads, these 3 cyl blocks are broken down into smaller year groups, according to likely differences in the assemblies themselves. Hard to identify just what the differences are and if they are really significant to your application or not. OBR groups the 91/92 60/70 powerheads in the same group, as an example.

Thanks for the input, this is the exact conclusion I have come to as well. I am hoping someone else can chime in and help me figure this out since I have looked high and low for this model and compatibility and haven't found anything. I would basically be swapping all of my parts onto the block so I want to make sure they would all fit and then it would bolt up. I plan on comparing on the BRP site and making a conclusion from there.

More view points are welcomed!

Thanks.

From 1986 to 2001 power heads will swop over as the adapter gaskets are the same , wot you have to take into consideration is your drive shaft that means with your existing drive shaft you can only fit a power head from1990 to 1991to match the crankshaft spline .

Only 1989 and up powerheads will work as they are 56ci, anything below1989 is a 49ci. The only reason gaskets are the same is because the powerhead bolts changed from 5/16 to 3/8 on the 49ci models. You do need to watch the crank spline as the late 90/91/92 models had fine spline crank and others the 4 spline crank.

No discrepancy as its a 60hp not a 70hp as the 60hp wasnt upgraded to 56ci till 1989. Used the iBoat info below to clear it up.....

This 1987, 60 hp Evinrude is made for saltwater. This outboard engine weighs approximately 248 pounds. It has 3 cylinders. The pistons have a 49.7 displacement.

Are you saying the crank splines changed from say a '91 to the '93-98 year range? Most of the ones I find are from the '93-98 year range, not a whole lot of '89-92 year range motors or powerheads floating around at least in my search the past few months.

I have gotten mine down to the point of pulling it off but I have not had the time to so I am not able to just look at it and see what it is at this point.

A comparison on the Evinrude parts site list the crank as a different part number for a '91 vs '93.

My mistake, going from memory from researching a rebuild on a 1988 70hp Evinrude. I thought I'd read the 60hp and 70hp were the same powerhead, crankcase with a change in the crankshaft splines between years. I'll have to relook into it as maybe it was the cranks that were the same between the 60hp and 70hp for 1988 as the 70hp I have has a damaged crank because the splines on the driveshaft and crankshaft were all worn and the driveshaft had spun inside the crank.
