Re: 1991 force 120 hp wont start

Why did you install a new ignition (switch I assume)? Did the old one test bad?

It's best to be as specific as possible when posting. Start with some history. Something like, I just bought the boat and I'm trying to get it started, or it's been running fine for years and now it wont start.

Be as specific as possible when you post something like "It wont start".
When you say it wont start, do you mean it wont turn over (crank), or do you have no spark, or do you have spark but it wont start?

There are many talented individuals on this forum that are more than happy to assist you in troubleshooting your problem, and for a price that can't be beat. ;) BUT, you need to help us by giving as much detail as possible.

I checked your previous post back in April and it seemed you were having trouble with keeping the battery charged. Is that the same problem you're having now? If so, the engine will not turn over without sufficient current from the battery. If you charge the battery and the engine starts and runs fine, but then quits and wont turn over, then the stator/rectifier (similar to an alternator in a car) is not charging the battery, or you have a bad battery.
The charging circuit is very simple on these engines. When the engine is running the flywheel (which has magnets around the perimeter) spins around the stator (which is a bunch of coils of wire). This creates AC voltage (think of water flowing back and forth in a pipe) which is connected to a rectifier to convert the AC to DC (think of the water only being allowed to flow in one direction) then on to the battery. SO, the problem could be with the stator not producing AC voltage, or the rectifier not converting the AC to DC, or the battery is shot and not able to be replenished by the charging circuit.
This is all assuming that the engine will not turn over.

If the engine turns over, but will not start, then there are a number of steps required to troubleshoot the issue. It seems simple, but and engine only needs three things to run. You need a proper fuel air mixture, compression, and spark at the correct time. (The quality of running depends on many things though..)

Good luck.
