Engine seems to fall off during any type of accel. Will come to like a idle at full throttle.
Have installed new carb kits, removed vro system, and placed a 4 lbs electric fuel pump.
Also my boat has the choke activated by depressing the key switch. When this happens and i press the key in boat runs excellent???? :(

That component with the RED lever is a primer solenoid (look upon it as a choke). The proper automatic position for it is to have the RED lever pointed back towards the rear portion of the solenoid.

Turning that RED lever 180° away from the solenoid puts it in the manual position whereas fuel will flow directly through it... same as having the choke in the full closed position.

Your explanation of the problem indicates that you did not manually clean the brass fixed high speed jets that are located in the bottom center portion of the float chamber(s).

Yes, they're removable with the proper screwdriver. You can also clean them where they are with a stiff piece of single strand mechanics wire.

Thanks very much....I'll dis-assemble them again this weekend.
Would a thin copper head gasket give me any more power?

MRTURBO,

You DO NOT want to do that head gasket trick.

Detonation, which you will get, is an outboards worst enemy.

There is much more to hopping up an outboard that bolting something on.

I had the exact same problem with my 91' 150 VRO and it turned out to be the number 1 cylinder coil pack was going out once the engine warmed up. Be sure to check the resistance on your coils before you tear apart the carbs to find that they are clean like I did!!!

Putting a copper head gasket on an aluminum block is not a good idea, especially in salt water.

If your sync & link is correct, the carbs are indeed clean and you have the correct spark plugs -- you may, as Joe mentioned, have to do some jetting. Verify the jets are all the correct ones and the low and mid range jets have not been reversed if its carbs where that is possible.

Good luck!
