Anyone know what the typical operating temp is supposed to be with this engine?

At idle and full throttle?

VJ140TLEID is the model number.

Thanks.

Mine doesn't seem to be warming up enough. The bay water is about 60 degrees right now and the head temp of the engine measured with a infrared thermometer shows about 85-90 degrees with new thermostats.

What could cause the engine to not warm up besides the thermostats? I replaced the diaphrams also. There was one gasket I couldn't get out and it was worn out. Wallowed out slightly but i don't think it would cause this problem. Here is a pic of the new gasket and a pic of the old wallowed out one that is still in there. What is that white medal part surrounding the gasket? It's not that way on the starboard side.

You need to replace the thermostat seat/seal in the photo, on both sides. The white metal is the stainless steel case of the old style seal, remove this and replace with new style seal. Water will by pass the thermostat at idle, without good seal.

Interesting. Mine has the new style on the starboard side and the old one on the port side. Wonder why they didn't just replace both. I'll try to grab it better with some pliers or something and see if I can pull out that old style seal it's stuck good.
