I am getting all the parts i need to put this motor back into running condition and the old starter drive was broken and the gear is worn so im trying to find the right drive for it, ive found [lester] and prestolite, nevillle, and several other brands for this motor , the one i bought for it is made by united technologies #02088-40-ov20sm and the shaft size is too small for the armature, my question is all these all different sizes for each brand or how can i id the starter i have it spins great with plenty of torque. where can i find a drive for it. ebay has some but getting the sellers to measure theirs is not easy.

If your starter is factory original then order the factory drive unit.

racerone/ sorry about not getting back on, been busy , but as to your question, no there is no name or numbers on starter thats on it, it is about 0.450 diameter hole on bottom of drive, about 6 or 7 grooves spiral , the one i bought had a 0.430 hole and about 4 spiral grooves , so the search goes on, put the head gasket on it fired right up, i had to buy the fuel connector and make a fuel pump bracket, the kid i got it from lost alot of stuff off of it, still got to get a water pump and i put a tiller handle halves with roller guides back on, and still have to get the grip for it, ran it for about ten seconds and confirmed water pump not working so thats next with grip and find a fuel pump bracket , that little fella was hard to position but i had pictures of another motor to go by. motor sounds very good
