1991 johnson 150 HP outboard shift rod

i need to disconnect the shift rod under the carbs. there are 2 screws 1 a hex head from the side or a bolt on top which one to release the lower unit. <br /><br />thanks

Wek....the hex head is the one to get. A 1/4 inch drive socket set with universal joint does a good job of snaking back to it. Put a piece of masking tape over the socket to hold the bolt for removal an installation. Putting the control in reverse will get the bolt down to where you can get to it.
