1991 johnson lower unit oil change question

i have a 1991 48 hp johnson and went to change the lower unit oil and about a handful of water came out first then the oil came out but didnt appear to be mixed is this normal or does it need seals ive seen oil and water mixed before but was always white or brownish milky looking any info would be greatly appreciated thanks

Water in lower unit is not normal; but it could be from not using new o-rings or gaskets on the drain and fill screws the last time the oil was changed. Hopefully that is your problem. good luck
