It seems my 1991 225 Johnson is running very rich...Too much oil! Fouling Plugs! I have read that a lot of people have disconnected their VRO pump and started mixing their own oil/gas..Is this really a good , cheap alternative? Are there many problems that arise with this? If not, help me get started please! Thanks.

suttonc,

WHOA! Don't be too quick to condemn something that you're not sure is broken.

How much oil are you using compared to the amount of fuel used. Do the math. It should work out to a ratio somewhere arround 50:1. Fifty parts of fuel to one part of oil.

You may be just running rich and it has nothing to do with the oil pump.
