1991 starcraft tach problem

Motor is a 1985 Johnson 120hp. It's my understanding from what I've seen in the forums is that it has 12 points and tach setting would be for 6p. However this tach only has 1,2,3,and 4. It's set to 4 but works intermittently and I'm guessing it is reading high. What should the setting be with this tach(its the original tach on my 1991 starcraft sfm 19'. Thanks for any help

Wrong tach; you need a universal with a 6p setting.
