1991 Volvo Penta 501 slightly ceased, advise

The boat had been sitting for about a year. I was able to turn by hand the entire motor about 1/2" before it would not budge. There is a clicking sound at the relay but nothing at the starter. What should I do next? Do I try to remove the starter and test it off the motor??? Please advise.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Terry

First thing to do is pull the spark plugs and check for water in the cylinders, or indication of water (rust on spark plug).<br />If that checks good and you still can't turn the engine by hand, pull the outdrive and see if the engine will turn by hand.<br />Regarding your starter, read this thread.<br /><br /> http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=012808
