need some opinions on this motor...i found this boat for sale it has a 1991 yammy 225 on it.. the ad says "good compression 1057 hrs" ..i just talked to the guy on the phone he said it runs good..he's had it 3 yrs and only problems he has ha with it was when he first bought it it was running alil hot so he brought it to a mechanic shop and they cleaned out all the water pasageways and put and new impeller and from then on its been great....only other time he said he had to bring it to a shop was when a electrical problem in starting it, turned out to be a wire in console, he had a compression check done on it a year ago when this electrical problem happened...1,3,5 cyls 110-115...2,4,6 cyls 120-125.....he says it runs great and is "turn key" ....any thoughts on this motor as described and the general reliabilty of this year/model motor?....thanks

Re: 1991 yamaha 225 reliabilty

sounds like a neglected corrosion monster.
take it to a good tech for a survey before ya buy it,
regular maint is the key to reliability not the manufacture.
the only issue we ever had with engines of that year was the shift shaft would rust away.
check it closely.
everything else was lack of maint.
