Re: 1991 Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke
I have a 1991 high thrust, electric start, 9.9 4- stroke as an aux for my sailboat, and it has been very good to me. This winter I am replacing the pivoting portion of the control arm, that attaches to the motor, due to corrosion. After 13 years, that's the only "major" repair. Otherwise a new water pump impeller and zinc every couple of years and one broken lever on a transom clamp screw are about all that has happened. I change oil at the recommended intervals, and winterize, including fogging oil. When it dies, which it does not appear to be any time soon, I'll replace it with a new Yamaha. The new ones are a bit lighter, but still seem to have the reputation for reliability. The one I have IS a bit heavy, but I'll take that in exchange for the smooth, quiet, reliability without reservation.
