I have a bad cylinder and decided to rebuild it myself. Never done a boat motor before but have done many car and lawnmower and ATV motors. I have the factory manual. I have taken alot of pics as I removed all the wiring, carbs, reeds and etc. My problem is when I try to lift the power head off, I am just about lifting the whole boat with the hoist and all I can get is about a 1/2 inch gap at the front between the powerhead and the mid section. I have removed the 6 long bolts, the 2 front bolts and nuts on each front side, and a bunch of other bolts. Im pretty sure I have removed all the bolts the book said to. Is there any bolts under the bubble exhaust? Is there some trick to getting it loose? What am I doing wrong. The bubble cover has some rounded bolts that i cant get to is why i havent just checked under it yet. This motor has been in salt water most of its life. PLEASE HELP!

There are 2 studs at the rear of the block. You'll need a 1/2" wrench to get the nuts off. Sounds like you have everything else, plus extras, already off. Sounds like the shift is disconnected as well as the front pan mounts. The rear pan mount bolts do not have to come out.

if your talking about the 1-2 inch gap that has 3 bolts going down and 2 nuts going up, I have removed those 2 nuts. They are about 3 inches in. I even removed the t-stats looking for extra bolts. I should add the corrosion in the water jackets around the heads were completely full of corrision. It looked like a white crystal material. Thats why I think it blew a piston ring.

Not really sure where the 3 bolts going down are but there are 2 studs at the rear of the block. The nuts can be accessed from the back of the motor. They are under the exhaust plates under the adaptor housing. If those are off and the front is loose then the studs are stuck in the adaptor from corrosion.

you should have removed 4 nuts total.
all 4 are 1/2" hex.
2 in the front and 2 that are tricky to see and access in the back.

Do you have 4 nuts off? The rest will be bolts.

OK I def have all the nuts/bolts out. Have soaked in PB Blaster for 2 weeks and I can get a quater inch between the block and mid plate at the front but the back 2 studs wont budge. I straped a chain around the bubble exhaust to get a straiter pull, let the weight of the boat and trailer hang all day on winch, heated around studs w/torch and hammered via a 1x4 at the bottom of the exhaust and a large sledge hammer. Still no luck. What is the trick here. What am I missing?

I put a crow bar under the stud pushing on the stud, had my son pushing up on the crow bar and I got on top and wiggled it back and forth till it popped . pulling stait up aint gonna let that pb blaster brake thru that nasty corosion. that sucks. its got to be driving you crazy
