I have a 1992 stratos with a 120 johnson. I am having problems with my power tilt. The motor will go up but not down. There is some hessitation when going up but it does go up all the way. It doesn't matter which button you try (on the motor, on the throttle or on the front of the boat). Any ideas?

My 1992 Johnson 100 did the same thing. It got progressively worse until it would not go up at all. Traced the problem to a relay. I replaced the relay and it works fine now.

Try swapping the up and down relays. If the problem switches from not going down to not going up, the relays are in question.....
If the problem remains the same with the relays swapped, the TnT switch and related wiring and connectors must be checked. Let us know....

Re: 1992 120 Johnson tilt problem

I don't know if this will help much, but I had a similar problem with my 87 70 horse evinrude. It would go down but not up.

It turned out to the remote switch on the shift handle.

You should be able to check by following the wires to the connecter, and with a multi tester check the up and the down positions on the switch for resistance. I checked for resistance at the connecter. When you disconnect the connecter you should see three prongs. You can look at the switch to see which wire is for the up and which is for the down. The center wire is the one you would check the other wires for resistance with. You will need to engage the switch and check for resistance at the up and down position,if one side of the switch has no resistance the switch is probably the problem.

Hope this helps
Scott
