I have hit a wall and need help figuring out my problem. I recently bought this motor knowing nothing about it. It starts fine and idles good. There is a miss at all RPMs but not always. When I throttle it all the way up it has lttle power, the RPMs don't seem to come all the way up and there is a miss every so many seconds that almost feels like a boost in power.
I've had the carb off three times. It seemed very clean I ran wire through all of the nozzles and sprayed liberally with carb cleaner. Nothing looked bad. The only thing I did notice was inside the primer button. The diaphragm is dry rotted and falling apart. I cleaned it out and put back together. I didn't think this was an issue because I don't use it. I checked compression and have 90+ on each cylinder. Today I used some sea foam to see if it was a build up of carbon. Lots of smoke but no noticeable change. I changed spark plugs. I did use a different plug than was in it because I read online the plug that I should use and the plugs in it were wrong. I cannot afford to put a lot of money into this motor. I have $800 into it now with the purchase and replacement of two shut off switches. Can someone help?

You need to rebuild the carb properly and replace all the gaskets including the primer. How do you start the motor if you don't use the primer.

I dont need to prime it to start it. One or two pulls and she starts fine. I will do the rebuild. Meantime is there anything else to look for or check?

Sounds ignition related - check for spark and do a cylinder drop test. I'll bet you'll find it's only running on one cylinder.

Ok. I was reading another post that suggested that. I will try it today and report back. Thank you. As far as the carburetor, I ordered a complete carb kit. I also noticed fuel leaking from the primer button, with the engine tilted. My thinking is that if fuel is leaking out than I could have a vacuum issue there.

Update:
I tried to post updates but the site wouldn't let me. I rebuilt the carb and no change. I ordered several ignition parts and it turns out the stator was bad. It was the first part I changed and when I ran it, huge improvement. I threw it in the water. It ran great.
