HI BRAND NEW HERE SO OLDEST DUMMIE "70"YRS OLD ;-]] JUST PURCH A
PONTOON WITH EVINRUDE 48HP FROM DEALER "AS IS"

MOTOR STARTS & RUNS GOOD FOR 15 MIN THEN @ STEADY 2000 RPM AND JUST STEADY NO THROTTLE ACTION UP OR DOWN & MOTOR BEGINS TO SURGE & CONTINUALLY SLOW DOWN BUT, NOT DIE JUST RUN VERY ROUGH
AS IF STAVING FOR FUEL !! WHEN I BRING IT BACK DOWN TO SLOWER SPEED APPROX 5MPH OR 1000RPM OR IDLE AND LEAVE IT THERE FOR 5 TO 8 MIN THEN ADVANCE THE THROTTLE SPEED IT WILL RUN NORMAL & WILL GET UP
TO 12MPH OR 3000 RPM & RUN 15 MIN THEN SAME PROBLEM ALL OVER AGAIN ???!!!

I PUT ON A NEW FUEL LINE COMPLETE WITH BULB FROM TANK TO MOTOR BUT, I SEE ON THESE FORUMS "O" RINGS ARE MENTIONED ! IS THIS ON THE QUICK CONN ON MOTOR ? & ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !!

When it's running, try pumping the primer bulb to see if that changes anything. If it does, then it may need a new fuel pump.

Welcome Joe, i have the same motor, is the vent open on the fuel tank? have you check spark, when the motor starts to act up? i don't believe it is fuel pump, as it would act up sooner, and continue to act up. do you have a fuel leak at the fuel coupling, hose to motor?

I Did Squeeze Fuel Line Bulb Once And The Engine Went To Full Speed For About 5 Seconds And Then Back To Idle But, Never Died !

When They Delivered Boat To Lake The Mechanic Said There May Be A
Leak At "o" Ring Where Quick Conn Goes On Motor So I Bought The Whole Evinrude Fuel Line Assembly !! The Conn At Tank (14 Gal)
Did Not Have A Quick Conn So I Connected Securely With Screw
Clamp (no Leaks At Tank Conn.) Is There An "o Ring" On Male Conn.
Tube At Motor ??!! (could Not See Due To Looking Down From Top)
I Was Kneeling On Floor Of Pontoon ;-[ Looking Down At Motor !

You Are Probably Right So, If There Is An "o Ring" Please Advise And Is This Easily Accessible & Where Do I Get One ?? Auto Parts Store
Or >?? No Marine Shops Close To Me :-{

no o ring on male connector, it is just an open connector, make sure you get the female pushed all the way on. until it clicks in the groove. it really sounds like the vent is clogged on the fuel tank. the fuel pump cannot pump fuel out of a vacuum. try taking the cap off the fuel tank or just loosening it. what do the spark plugs look like?

well i tried removing gas cap yesterday & this am i blew compressed air through gas cap and gas kept coming out !! then i guess i had too much pressure so i blew the top off gas cap !! ;-[[ oh well so now i am going to get
2 new plugs and a gas cap at auto parts store and i will advise you on results and once again thanks sooooooo muchhhhh for hanging in there with me !!!!

well can't thank you enough !!! went to johnson dealer bought new plugs
"champion pregapped" & removed chinese plugs :-[ also purchased new fuel pump total bill = $100.93 satisfaction for self repair $500 (only with your help)
service call saved $75 travel + $75 diagnose !!!

RESULTS !! ran that boat for 2 solid hours ran PERFECT !!
