1992 90hp johnson vro v4 prop slip

I have a 1992 90 hp johnson vro v4 on a 18 ft sunbird fish/ski. When i get on it from a dead stop the prop seems to slip then it like catches and runs like it is supposed to. The only thing i could describe it to is riding a dirtbike on dirt and having the tire spin until it hits hard ground and takes off..can someone please tell me what this could be and how to correct it..it only does it every once in a while

Sounds like prop ventilation to me, BTM. Could be cavitation if you have a damaged prop or the engine set too high.

I'm with JB. Set up is everything. Check for a spun hub also.
A little more history would help with a diagnosis as well. New boat to you ???? new issue on this boat ?? did it used to be OK and has just started doing this ?? is it an issue you inherited when you got the boat ?? has it always done this a bit and has recently got worse ??

it is a new boat to me and that was the second time i took it out. i have had the boat a month and took it out 2x because it has rained everytime i have been off. well it is nice today and i will be going out in it again today. yes i made sure the unit was all the way down. if lets say it is the prop, where would u reccomend me getting a new one and what is the best type for sking/tubing and good top end. this boat is very fast now (45-50) and i dont want to lose and top speed. there is a stainless 3 blade prop on there now and the blades look a little wharpy. would going to a 4 blade stainless be any better. what type do u suggest. also i dont know what the pitch is on the prop nor do i know where to find it..could someone please help. i picked up this boat for very cheap and it runs real nice except for that prob. i also checked last night the pin that goes on the bottom and it is set all the way in the down position..thanks for ur replys. also how do u check to see if it has a spun hub. it doesent do this everytime, it just does it when it is cold it seems. also would a jack plate make this boat run any faster? i was reading up on them and they seem a bit complicated to put on..
