Hi folks,
It's been a long winter, but we finally got the new Merc 383 stroker 350 hp engine installed and the boat bottom painted. It was launched over the weekend. As soon as the Mercury tech signs off on the motor's maximum RPM (5,200 RPM) at full throttle, we'll be able to take possession and start sea trials.
What I'm not happy about is the fact this full throttle test must be done without giving the motor a customary 20 hour break-in. It was explained to me that Mercury has no problem with this and the tech must ensure the motor is not under-propped so the engine will not rev beyond the red line. Without this test, the multi-year warranty can't be initiated.
The original motor was a 454 cu. in. 300 hp, which also weighed 200 - 300 lbs more than the 383 stroker.
Here is a photo of it going in the water.
