1992 E90TLend Long Shaft 90Hp V4 - - What other years / HP lower units interchage ??

Hello. . ..

Seems the seal went late last fall (I fish late into the year) and the lower unit side popped over the winter = ARRRGH

1992 E90TLend Long Shaft

My kids and Nephew are hounding me to go Musky Fishing . . . . .

Was hoping to find out what years / HP - evinrude's / Johnson's will fit my engine to help in my search for a good used one.

Well . . .

Did some more digging today - to no avail . . .

One shop said anything from an 85hp to 145hp will fit while others say 75 - 90 - 115 interchange only . . . . . .

I have been told they interchange from 1978 to 1998 by one local shop, and 1992 or newer by the other shop . . . . . . .

Honestly hate to spend any money till I know for sure . . . .

Hopefully an Evinrude GURU / Moderator can shed some light my direction . . . .

After looking at the lower unit Interchange chart I see:

85-140.............(crossflow 13 spline prop shaft).............1978-1991
88-140.............(crossflow 13 spline prop shaft)..............1992-1998

Does anyone know what is the difference / change in the case itself (if any) from 1991 & prior to 1992 to 1998 lower units for this motor ??

I am wondering if the case itself is the same and the shaft splines or something else was just altered which would allow me to drop my guts into a empty lower unit from a year other then 1992-1998

Been hell trying to find a used one in the 1992-1998 range in my area, so trying to reason all my options
