1992 Evinrude 115 starter solenoid check

Can someone advise how to check whether starter solenoid is defective or if neutral safety switch is in good working order.

one way to test a solinoid is to jumper the poles with a lead wire or a screwdriver. go from the battery cable pole to the pole that activates the solinoid. this way will not tell you if the neutral safety is working though.
