I have a 150 1992 evinrude that when you are starting the motor, the choke squirts out fuel. it looks like a valve stem that has a red lever. it loosen or tightens but my question is if there's a rubber seal that may be going bad and is it something I can replace? it only leaks when starting the motor but stops when you stop cranking the motor. it doesn't leak while its running. I just feel that its should be a simple fix.

This is the choke primer solenoid and could be a simple fix. Rebuild kits are availabe from most marine dealers.

It may be leaking from an o-ring inside on the red lever or from a bad gasket on the top or cracked nipple or fuel line.

It leaks on when cranking from the activation of the key switch, once switch is released, the soleniod does not pump extra fuel to the combustion ports.

I just fixed the same issue on my 1985- 70hp. The o-ring or actual valve itself can be damaged. I went to my local marine shop, as that primer solenoid is used on every johnston/evinrude that has one. They carry an aftermarket valve, that contains a shrader valve, so you can fog your engine or use other additives. Costed $5, loosen but dont remove the four screws, apply pressure to lever, it pops out. Replace/Reinstall. Problem solved.
