Hey all, I have a 1992 Evinrude 50 hp, model # E5OTLEOD, after launching the boat I turned the key and the motor spun once and stopped. It sounded as if it the battery was weak, I hadn't used the boat for a couple of weeks, so I thought that may be the case. I tried hooking up my trolling battery, which I had charged the day before, still nothing. After getting the boat out of the water, my power trim does not work either. I have looked for loose or bad grounds, and have found nothing. I have tried getting a manual, but no one has one in stock.....and the library has every year covered except 1992. Any suggestions on what I can check until I get a manual and schematic? I have a multimeter and know how to use it, so please don't suggest that ...lol. I do have 12 volts at the starter relay also........
Thanks in advance!!!

Re: 1992 Evinrude 50hp Electrical!!!

you can use then 91 and 93 manual. they are basically the same. near the starter solenoid, is a red inline fuse holder, check the fuse.

90% of starter problems are bad connections. remove and clean both ends of the battery cables, so that they are shiney, also the cable from the solenoid to starter. check for nicks in the cables. and make sure the connectors are on the wire good. the cable tend to corrode from the inside out, if nicked, corroded wires, and connections, heat up and cause resistance to the follow of electricity, thus the starter doesn't get enough. you can also take jumper cable pos battery post to large post on starter. with a good connection, the engine should spin. then if the starter is good clean everything and retest. then trouble shoot solenoid. starters can be rebuit at a starter/alternator shop, much cheaper than a new one.

also have the battery load tested at autoparts store.
