I have my new to me boat thread here http://forums.iboats.com/forum/gene...opics/10425672-my-new-to-me-16-5-double-eagle

But now i have a technical motor question regarding the timing advance on it
I did a search and found some info this thread being most helpful http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...ems-better-explained-with-picture-video-added

I didn't want to bump an old thread and i think my issue is slightly unrelated

On mine it looks like the timing is wedged forward all the time and it is not free to move, it looks like the linkage arm is incorrect or missing a piece too

and here it is wedged in where it was

If i remove the arm it moves smooth as butter back and forth
but clearly the way it is it is not free to move at all through the throttle range

It runs absolutely amazing how it is. So i dont know if i should just live with it or ?

Thanks

Bottom picture appears that the linkage arm you're holding in your hand in the top picture is installed backwards. Spring end should be facing away from the timer base stop tab. This allows spring tension to hold the timer base tab against its idle stop when throttling back to neutral.

It timing is all the way advanced ALL THE TIME like he posts, how the heck is it even idling?
With timing all the way advanced, it would be racing when in neutral (idle position on control).

When I had it disconnected I ran the motor and moved the timing by hand and the motor died when I moved it back at all

Could someone have adjusted the stops to a happy medium. I'm guessing I'm loosing a lot off the top end right now. Tach dosnt work so can't confirm what rpms are at wot but I'm guessing it's low

We really want to go to the lake this weekend
I'm guessing it's been used how it is for a few years
Will I do it any harm using it with the "fixed" timing

Thanks

I will be trying it with the arm connected like in the photo. But might wait to play with it till after the weekend as the wife and kid. And me are excited to take it out

Thanks

Meehh....My advice would be not to take it out as is. I would recommend to install it correctly and adjust carburetor link and synch to spec. If she won't run right then ,something is amiss on the carburetors or ignition timing. The obvious things first though to narrow the issue.

Is there a manual online ?
Or a simple step by step for setting this all up ?
Maybe I'll hook it up and all will be ok. Wishful thinking

Thanks

So ive hooked it back up correctly
and it fired right up and would kinda idle but seemed really low and would stall here and there

so i screwed in this screw until it idled better. still seems a little low but i dont want to mess with to much stuff right now

the throttle response seems alot crisper and seems to rev alot smoother and faster now

is there anything else i should be adjusting or just keep it as is ?

Thanks again for the help so far

Looks like you got her under control "pun intended" now. Now check to see that the throttle linkage roller is on center with the scribe line on the fiber throttle cam. There is a cable trunnion adjuster for this purpose just under where you reconnected the timer base linkage. The upper trunnion is for this cable adjustment and the lower one adjusts the shift cable/ don't mess with the lower one if it shifts ok. You want the roller on center and just barely touching the fiber throttle cam. This will insure full open and full close of the carburetor flaps.

Thanks it is lined up with the line and seems to be functioning correctly. One thing I did notice

When I put it in gear at idle it will go into gear all good at idle rpm. I apply throttle and all is good revs up nicely.
Then when I return the throttle to idle position but still in gear it dorsent fully drop the rpm to idle until I put it into neutral

Not sure if this makes sense

Not sure if it's normal. I think I can live with it. Just if I want to cruise at idle rpm after throttle input I'll have to go neutral first then back into gear

Sometimes all is needed is some fine adjustment when on the water. Just be careful not to get around a spinning flywheel or fall out :D

Yea I'll bring some tools along with what's already on the boat and tinker if needed.

I'm just happy we get to take it out this weekend still and I'm very happy things are returned to stock.

Nothing irritates me more then something halfassed

Thanks ob

I will get a photo of the model and top of flywheel in a few minutes here

Someone mentioned earlier in the post that they are 1991s maybe just purchased in 92

Thanks

That is an "EI" at the end of the model number which means its a 1991 model.

From what I gather in this thread it should read
E70TLEIE
But that third letter from the end dosnt look like a E

It would be confirmed that it is a 91 though

Took her out today. Ran great went great. Tops out around 33 mph

I did have to adjust the idle up a tad more though.
But other then that was good
