So I just picked up this boat. Wasn't running but clearly the gas and it was shot drained it clean the carbs converted to premix. Seems to run good sometimes other times missing like crazy. I do know it has the wrong plugs and they are pretty fouled so I'm going to have to change those out before I can really dig into the missing issue too much.

But the main issue and I believe to be a common issue is I've got water getting into cylinder one and I know this because the piston on cylinder one looks all shiny and new while the rest have your usual build up of carbon and oil. Well testing it out on the water today I kept noticing a rattle specifically when wide open on plane doesn't do it coming on to plane. Or say loading the motor against the trailer. only once the motor gets fully opened up. I read that the water getting into the cylinder can cause this rattle? I've read this can be caused by a casting issue which causes a crack in the block I've also seen that it may be due to the head gasket or the thermostat and seals?

I'd be willing to try a head gasket or new seals but I'm not looking to get this thing all tore down and go after a crack in the block so if it comes down to that is this a problem I can just let slide for a while while hunting for another outboard?
