My boss doesn't have access to the net,but ownes a boat with a 1992 Johnson 115 and can't seem to figure out the power trim(he just purchased the motor). How does the power trim work? Does it have a seperate pump that mounts in the boat? I have owned 3 boats all were I/O's and know notta about outboards, but told him i'd ask the experts on this site. The motor has a switch mounted on it as well as the throttle lever(he purchased a new throttle/wiring assembly to go along with the motor.I'm sure its something simple, but can someone explain to me how the system works? Is he missing a pump, like on an I/O or do outboards operate different for trim?

I have a 150hp but its similar, heres a blowup diagram of mine.

the whole unit mounts between the outboard mounting brackets, its removeable as a unit and can be operated on the work bench with 12v.
Motor, reservoir, pump and pistons are all together in one unit.
It gets its power from the 12v starter connections, doesn't require the controller to operate if it has the buttons on the powerhead.

He ought to get a factory service manual, available here on iboats.
