Recently purchased a project boat equipped with a 1992 Mariner 150, serial #OD177534.
I was putting the prop on and noticed that it would spin freely when in forward, as if it were still in neutral. Reverse worked as normal.
I popped the cowling off and saw that the cable was not pulling forward past neutral position. So next I unbolted the controls from the console to check them out.
As the picture shows, the shift cable was still attached to the arm in front, but the arm in back was moving independently. It looked like the eye of the cable should be sandwiched between the two arms, so I managed to get them all lined up and connected and now everything seems to be working as normal.
I hope this all makes sense. So, can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be some sort of fastener holding those two arms together? Without a fastener I feel like they're just going to come apart again and I won't be able to shift.
