hello

Well i bought a boat this past monday, a 1986 wellcraft cuddycabin v20steplift a alluminun trailer and this 92' mercury with broken block, well at least it appears broken to me cause it has a hole by the side of the engine block with a cracked metal bar hanging out.
I paid $1000 and i like the boat, the problem is i need a engine and it seems they all cost too much.

anyway is there anything someone here can suggest me to do, is there anything worth to do with this engine, can i sell the parts or repair whats best to do or buy another cheap used engine?
thanks for any help

also the person i bought the boat from told me that this happen because they were drunk and didnt put oil in it.

This is the first boat i bought myself the other i had before was a free boat 1973 v20 steplift damage inboard engine and very rutten tramsom, floor and the engine a rusty metal scrap so i started fixing the boat, but had to throw it away cause it was too much.

You have a few choices. You can buy a used motor from a local boatyard, or off eBay, or you can see if you can pickup a rebuilt powerhead off the web or locally. I do not think they will take your block in trade, but you need to verify.

If you pick the rebuilt block avenue, you will need to install the powerhead, and swap over the fuel and ignition systems. That is a pretty big deal because you will want them to be in good working order so you do not blow up the new block.

I bought a '93 Merc 135HPV6 last year for $1K from a local guy. it was a pretty good motor, but still priced under "book" value.
