1992 Mercury 115 to 1994 Mercury 150?

My 92 Merc 115 has developed what I think is a bad bearing (runs OK below 3k, but above that it will cut out. Loudly). I wanted a bit more power, and have found a low hour, well maintained 1994 150HP Merc engine.

I'm hoping that this would be a simple swap. I have controls and tach for the 150, but if I can use the existing ones I can save some $$$. Any opinions on this?

The control + cables and tach will work w/o an issue. Check the wiring harness to make sure it is has the same connector at the motor. it probably is. Steering is compatable, check the fuel line fitting to make sure it is the same, again, it likely is.

The only issue is weight and max HP on your boat. if you boat is capable of both, you should be good to go. Props are different, however.

BTW if that motor has oil injection, it should require a 3Gal oil resevoir in the boat itself, as well as the one on the motor.
