1992 omc cobra - no centering cone- missing from OEM diagram?

was busy pressing new gears on today - and for the life of me cannot seem to find the centering cone. In my manual (1992 cobra all models OEM) the assembly mentions the centering cone, however on the diagram its not there. On other diagrams however it IS shown. Do some models NOT have the cone and rely on the bearing / shaft for alignment (this seems odd but i cant be sure).

i just found some pics and it seems i DID in fact have "something" in there.. so how come its not in the diagram?

Hope you got the special tools for shimming.......

nope :/ just couldnt afford.. I used original shims at first.. I got the rolling torque on the vertical gearset done perfect, backlash was perfect- the wear pattern was good on teeth.. Lastly i did the rolling torque on the whole upper and was perfectly in the middle of the oem specs.. maybe i got lucky who knows but I think im happy with those results..
