Hello... I have a 1992 Stingray 501 zp . It is a 15 foot bow rider that i am putting a new floor in over the next week or so. My question is. The boat as it is now has an area between the front two seats that has a cut oit in it in the floor. With a wooden type of slat thing in the floor where you can see the hull. My question is also. Why is it there and when i redo the floor do i have to put it back in ? Or can i just make the new floor continues ? Without the cut oit ib the floor. I would love to do away with it ? But i dont ubderstand its purpose ? Thanks.

Probably a "Ski Locker" and if you don't Need/Want it...Cover it up. No worries. If you're replacing the deck, have you core sampled the stringers and transom???

it is the ski locker. they are quite handy, if you dont ski, they hold fishing rods, or mooring fenders or 5 cases of beer.

however if your floor is soft, your transom and stringers long went bad.

plan on pulling the entire interior, the motor and if possible, pull the cap to make your job easier.

Personally, I would make it bigger so that it holds at least 6 or 7 cases of beer. I would also recommend following Wood and Scotts advise ^^ and make sure to check the stringers and transom before putting any time and money into just the deck. The most important thing you can learn from this site is that boats tend to rot from the bottom up so if you floors need replacing, it is very, very likely that your stringers and transom are bad too.

I would keep the sub-floor beer cooler. If you do have to rebuild the structure, you could make it even bigger, as suggested :D

I dont see how i could fit skis in there. But maybe... As for my floor. Its not rotten. Or soft really at all. I am replacing it only because we cut a bigger hole in it than neccesary where the bilage pump and drain are. So much so that sometimes while standing atvthe very back of the boat your foot starts to go into the hole. I will double chexk the stringers. How ever i dont know how i would ever check the transom. And if it was bad. I imagine it is 🚹 orly expensive to start replacing transoms and stringers. I would just sell the boat and motor and a decently cheap price and buy a newer boat with a 115hp . If it was say $3000 to fix a bad transon and stringers. Any idea what it could cost? Or how to het at the transom ? I mean there are no cracks in it yet.

Yeah, it you had to replace the deck, stringers and transom you'd be looking at $2-3K

+1 I've got 3k in my project already and probably will have another 1k in it on a 20' boat.
