1992 txrq 250hp.wont idle /been scamed

Well i just purchased a boat from a local marina owner. He didnt disclose the fact that he has switched helmets on the outboard i thought i had a ox66 but it was this odball motor insted. It spits a pops and dies at idle i went to go clean my vst and i didnt have one!! Lol oh well hopfully this motor will run decent. Any one with any ideas also there is a fuel switch on the botom right (from inside boat) that was off when i purchased it. Should it be off or on to run it. It wont make bulb hard when it is on. Any info or links to somthing to help me get this thing running eould be great feeling pretty ripped off

So what does the marina owner say about it?

Did it run correctly when you test drove it?

I never water tested it ran ok on muffs but after a few seconds it will stumble and die now. Im going to contact him tomorrow morning, i have a feelong nothing will come of it hard to find any thing on these 1992s i dont even know where to begin i guess a compression test to find out if its worth the time. I was promised up and down compresson was exclent
