1992 Yamaha 150

I am now looking at a yamaha 1992 150 and wanted to know how early models hold up to salt water conditions . I was told before yahama had there salt water series engines , yamaha used a lot of rust potection on there engines . true or not ? any good or bad info on that 1992 year yamaha 150 engine Thanks for the input ! The one issue that comes to mind first when dealing with that model is the shift shaft was not stainless at that time and may need to be replaced. This can be a major repair on that model engine.
The maintemnce performed by the original owner is the basis for the longevity of that motor when used in salt water.
