I’m looking for a new-to-me family boat and I discovered a crazy “Faux inboard” type boat with a big fiberglass cowl/swim platform thing hiding the motor.

So before I look hard at this, is there anything really different about or problematic about these motors? Are the powerheads, lower units, fuel, ignition systems etc interchangeable with standard motors of the era? (1993)

I don’t want to get involved with this if it’s a nightmare to find parts.

Also, how well do these idle? I like to slow troll sometimes and this is a big 2 stroke. Surely I’m asking for trouble?

Just a special cowling and a special / different power trim system, all internal engine parts and lower unit are the same as a regular outboard.----That V-4 in good condition will troll all day long.---Parts and pieces have no idea how big a motor they are in !!!------I used to troll for hours on end with a 1982 V-6 Johnson 235 HP and no issues.

Awesome. Seller claims the trim motor was replaced 2 years ago. I’ll ask if he has bills to show. Thanks for the help

It is an attempt to hide the outboard.---And silence that outboard.-----Think 1992 / 93 / 94.-----Today folks proudly display their 4 stroke outboards on the transom.

I thought the boat looked pretty cool and still do, but now I feel it’s akin to an old Volkswagen Beetle with one of those Rolls Royce grill kits that were popular (or not popular) in the late 70’s or early 80’s.

I’m still going to look at it. I like the low maintenance aspect of it. I’m getting familliar with OMC motors. I like the fact the motor is self draining. And…it’s unique

Well, I took a look. I see why these boats ceased production. What a bizarre motor set up. Suspended on parallel pivoting shafts. Would be a nightmare to turn wrenches on or do transom repairs. Mechanics must have hated these.

The boat itself had great features though. Sharp boat.

People who buy new stuff generally do not worry about repairs.-----Just look at high end cars and boats.----Folks trade for a new car when tires are worn out.----Force built an " L-DRIVE " in those years.----Sold a few and won awards with it.----Not popular today.
