I've got a 1993 120HP V4 90V loop charged Johnson that just wont idle very well. After it warms up, it will idle well while I'm out on the water for a while. However, every time I take it out on the water, when I'm coming in to trailer it, it wants to die everytime I put it into idle, or when I try to shift from forward to reverse. (It's really a pain when your trying to back off when approaching the trailer and it dies)
Anyway, my questions are:
1) I'm going to do a compression check, what are normal compression numbers for my motor?
2) I'm wondering if I should adjust the fuel/air mixture screws on the carbs. My (stupid) question is, can I adjust these with the motor running and with the air silencer (cover) removed?
Also, I noticed one of my carbs is missing the slow-speed mixture screw. Could this be a problem with the idle?
