I'm looking at a boat with a 150 Ocean Runner and would appreciate any opinions about this engine and any particular issues I should watch for.

Thanks!

Re: 1993 150 Ocean Runner

its a great motor,

the OIS and quick start makes starting realy easy for a 2 stroke.
i think it is one of the best carbed 2 stroke outboard out there.

the vacuum switch alarm sound exactly the same as the overheat alarm.
it great to have a vacuum alarm will let you know for any fuel restrictions.

i do not know why there is a vapor seperator on this engine,
might have to do with the amount of fuel it sucks and vacuum.

be careful with cylinder nr 1 some blocks developed a crack and let water leak into the cylinder.
if compresion is good and plug looks ok its probbebly fine.

also check the minlon intake manifold for warping.
after 13 years they do warp and leak air into the intake.
wich will lean out cylinder and lead to disaster.
(happend to a motor i just rebuild.)

also the carbs are made of this stuff and need some atention.

if you are using 10% ethanol change all the black gaskets to the brown ones.

tstats seals, waterpump etc etc.
check the pp sleeve it should be bleu or gray.
if you have a black sleeve you might want to replace it.
if you ever have to take of flywheel be advised when you instal it wach your fingers.
these flywheel magnets are very strong and slam that flywheel down including your fingers.

its a good engine and easy to work on.

if you want a great motor and do al the maintenance and repairs yourself this is the motor you want.

Reeldutch--thank you very much.

Can you tell me about the intake manifold warping and how to evaluate for that condition?

What are good compression figures?

If all is working properly, do these idle pretty smoothly?

I appreciate your help--Jack
